Lil Sadie can't seem to do anything without her baby. She eats, sleeps, and plays with her all day every day. I guess she has that motherly instinct already Ü

Birthday Party

Sadie's best friend just turned 3, so they had a princess party and invited us over to participate in the festivities! This was Sadie's first birthday party she has been to... so... I thought it deserved to be posted. We had a good time played fun princess games, and ate a yummy princess cake, and got some good laughs out of the kids interacting with one another.

Herriman

For those who don't know already Herriman is a city here in the Salt Lake Valley. South west from where we live (about 10 miles). Yesturday afternoon at Camp Williams Military Base they were doing some artillery training, when a casing sparked, hit some brush and ignited. Soldiers quickly tried to contain the fire. However, the soldiers did not have the manpower or equipment to stop it from rapidly spreading.

Shortly after, the wind picked up, and viciously spread the fire. They were dealing with winds of 50 MPH, and 30 foot flames. The fire was literally spreading faster than anyone could run! Surrounding Fire Departments were called in to help, and FEMA (Federal Emergency Management Agency) stepped up to help.

Last night, there were 150 firefighters fighting the fire, 3500 acres had burned, 1500 homes were evacuated, and 4 homes had been lost. The sky was black with smoke.

It got me thinking of what would I do in a situation like this? What would I take? What could I live without? My initial response would be TAKE EVERYTHING! But logically there probably would not be time or we wouldn't have the resources to take everything.

I am so thankful for our home and everything that we have. I am glad to know that only a handful of homes were lost and the winds calmed enough to allow the fire crews to fight the fire and save several other homes from burning. Now I better start a list of things we would need in an emergency!

Jake's Knee Surgery

So today was the day.... Jake had his knee surgery. Right now he is on cloud 9. Pain Free (thanks to wonderful pain meds). The Doc had to go in and check out what was causing the pain and fluid build up. Months of pain and aches, due to a flap in the cartilage of his knee. The Doc carefully scraped the cartilage, drained the fluid, and finally drilled a small hole to aid in increasing the blood flow. Now we wait for the knee to heal completely. The healing process will take about 4 months total. The GOOD NEWS is Jake is to start walking with all his weight on his knee starting...(drum roll please)... as soon as possible! Thats right NO CRUTCHES! The diagnosis was better than we had anticipated!

Going into this procedure we had to plan for the worst case scenario. I don't like to look for the worst in any situation, but mentally I knew that if I didn't plan on Jake being down and out for at least a few weeks, it would be much harder to adjust to the "change" in lifestyle if he was going to be immobile. I am so thankful that he is able to have a quicker recovery and get back to his active lifestyle sooner rather than later. Hope this surgery solves his problems!

Knee Surgery

A little over 5 years ago Jake had surgery on his right knee after a nasty fall. He had broken off part of some cartilage (from his femur) in his knee, and it was floating around causing his discomfort and pain. The doc operated, took the free floating cartilage out, and ordered him to 6 weeks of crutches, NO weight on his knee.

Over the past several months Jake's left knee has been achey, and giving out on him. He finally got sick of dealing with it and went to see an orthopedic surgeon. After a X-ray and MRI the doctor discovered that part of his femur has lost blood flow, and there is fluid build up between the femur and some cartilage. He doesn't know why this is all happened and what is causing it, so now Jake is going in on Tuesday to have surgery on his knee to try to fix the problem. The doc has no idea if it will be a major or minor surgery until he gets in there to operate and sees what is going on. Jake may be able to walk as soon as they are done with surgery, or he might be on crutches for 6 weeks after. I am hoping it is more minor than major, but I just want his knee better and no more pain! We will keep you all up on the doc's discovery and Jake's recovery.
